Just named by Country Living as one of the best towns to visit for Christmas; Asheville, NC is a magical place to be this time of year.

While Christmas at the Biltmore might be Asheville’s main attraction during the holiday season, there are plenty of other fun things to do and see to really you get you in festive spirit!

Christmas at the Biltmore

Dating back to the 1800s the Vanderbilt home, better known as the Biltmore Estate, has been hosting lavish Christmas festivities. Purchase an estate tour, a self-guided walk through the castle-like home decked out with 55 beautifully decorated Christmas trees, colorful lights, fanciful garland, and holiday blooms. Enjoy commemorative Christmas wine at the winery, shopping at Antler Village, and so much more. Choose from a daytime tour or a candlelight evening tour.

Explore downtown Asheville

Asheville’s funky and eclectic downtown is fun to explore no matter what time of year, but it is particularly enjoyable during Christmas. With the streets decked out in holiday decorations, adorned storefronts, and of course incredible light displays, downtown Asheville really knows how to get into the holiday spirit. The Local Lights display will illuminate Pack Square and Pritchard Park in the heart of downtown.

Winter lights at the North Carolina Arboretum

Brighten up your holiday with a visit to the Winter lights at the North Carolina Arboretum. As Asheville’s brightest holiday tradition, visitors enjoy a walk through their own winter wonderland with unique displays of more than a half-a-million holiday lights. Running November 16th – December 31st.

Shop Asheville’s art galleries

Asheville, NC is home to a plethora of local art galleries, selling everything from paintings, glass work, and pottery. Downtown Asheville has the largest collection of art galleries, but visitors can find a variety of art and crafts galleries at the Biltmore Village and other small villages. A great place to hunt for a unique piece of art is at the River Arts District.
